Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC “Mammut” is a great structured red wine. The grapes, 100% Montepulciano, are carefully selected and harvested in mid October. Then, only the free-run must gets pressed and winemaking takes place at a controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, which grants a particular fineness and maturation, the wine need to be aged in 5 hl tonneau (a particular kind of oak barrels) for 15 months. Bottle refinement lasts at least 6 months.
Characteristics of this red wine
It displays a deep garnet red colour and conveys a black fruit jam bouquet, which merges fade flower scent with pepper and cardamom notes, then ends with a delicate fragrance of licorice and coffee. On the palate it’s light, elegant, but also strong and majestic, with a great structure. Tannic, velvet and persistent in taste. Spicy and fruity flavours return in the end.
Recommended pairings while tasting this wine from Abruzzo
It should be served in a wide crystal glass at a temperature of 18-20°C. We suggest to open the bottle one or two hours before serving, in order to bring out its characteristics. It’s perfect to be paired with red meat, roast and braised beef.
